Steven Koops' Early Football Days
Steven Koops started his football journey in Darwin. He played for the Southern Districts Football Club in the Northern Territory Football League (NTFL). Later, he moved to the West Perth Football Club in the West Australian Football League (WAFL).
Playing for the Northern Territory
Steven showed great talent early on. He represented the Northern Territory team. This was at the Under 18 Championships in both 1994 and 1996. In 1995, he won the Hunter Harrison Medal. This award is given to the best player in Division 2 of the championships.
Steven Koops' AFL Career
Steven Koops began his AFL career with the Fremantle Football Club. He was drafted in 1995. He made his first AFL appearance in 1996. At 17 years and 277 days old, he was the youngest player ever to debut for Fremantle.
Time at Fremantle
In his first four years at Fremantle, Steven played 16 games. Over eight seasons with the club, he played a total of 78 games. He scored 49 goals during this time. In 2003, he moved to the Western Bulldogs. This happened as part of a player trade.
Moving to the Western Bulldogs
Steven joined the Western Bulldogs in 2004. His time there was affected by injuries. In 2004, he had a thigh strain and a broken jaw. He also suffered a punctured lung. These injuries limited him to playing only 11 games that year.
Retirement from AFL
