Steven Krasner grew up in Cranston, Rhode Island. He played basketball and baseball in high school. He was on the varsity teams.
In 1975, he finished college at Columbia University. He earned a degree in English. He was also the captain of the baseball team. He was named the team's most valuable player (MVP) in his last year. He also worked as the sports editor for the college newspaper.

Steven Krasner started working at The Providence Journal in 1975. He wrote about many big sports events. He covered three "no-hitters" in baseball. He also wrote about many World Series games. He covered baseball All-Star games and Super Bowls too.
He was at the 1989 World Series when a big earthquake happened. It was a 6.9-magnitude earthquake. It stopped the game at Candlestick Park.
In 2008, Steven Krasner joined the Words Unlimited Hall of Fame. This is a special honor for sports writers. In 2010, he won the Dave O'Hara Award. He also helps choose players for the Baseball Hall of Fame. He strongly supported Jim Rice to be in the Hall of Fame. Jim Rice was elected in 2009. Nudging the Imagination Workshops
