Steven May (born on January 10, 1992) is a talented Australian rules football player. He plays for the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Steven was also a co-captain for the Gold Coast team in 2017 and 2018.

Steven May's Early Life and Junior Football
Steven May was born in Darwin. He comes from an Indigenous Australian family, with ties to the Gunbalanya and Larrakia people.
Steven started playing junior football at the Southern Districts Football Club. This club competes in the Northern Territory Football League. His great playing there earned him a scholarship to the AIS in 2008. The AIS helps young athletes develop their skills.
Later in 2008, Steven moved to Melbourne. He finished his final years of school at Melbourne Grammar. A highlight was when he kicked 9 goals in a game against Scotch College.
While playing for the Northern Territory in the 2010 AFL Under 18 Championships, he was named a full forward. This meant he was one of the best players in the under 18 All-Australian team. After this, the new Gold Coast Football Club signed him. He was one of their top picks from the Northern Territory.
Steven finished the 2010 season for Melbourne Grammar with 40 goals in eight games. He also won the best and fairest award. After graduating, he moved to the Gold Coast to start his AFL career.
Steven May's AFL Career Highlights
Steven May made his AFL debut in 2011. He played against Essendon in round 6. He mostly played as a defender that year. Steven finished his first AFL season having played nine games.
In 2012, Steven continued to play in defense. However, in round 21 against Hawthorn, he had a standout game. He moved to a forward position and kicked three goals. He also took twelve marks, showing his skill up front.
In 2014, Steven played defense against the Sydney Swans. He played very well against Lance Franklin, a top goal scorer. Steven limited him to only three goals.
In December 2016, Steven May was named co-captain of the Gold Coast Football Club. This was a big honor. He became only the sixth Indigenous captain in VFL/AFL history.
On May 24, 2017, he wore number 67 on his jersey. This was for the Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round game. It honored the 1967 referendum. This event allowed Indigenous Australians to be counted in the national census.
At the end of the 2018 season, Steven May moved to the Melbourne team. His first year in Melbourne was tough due to injuries. But after that, he became a key player in Melbourne's defense. He played alongside Jake Lever and Adam Tomlinson. By round 7 in 2021, he was averaging over 20 disposals per game. Melbourne was undefeated and at the top of the ladder. They had also let in the fewest points of any team.
Steven May won his first AFL Premiership with Melbourne in 2021. His team beat the Western Bulldogs. He played through a serious hamstring injury to help his team win.
