These islands are governed by Tristan da Cunha. Tristan da Cunha is an archipelago, which means a group of islands. It is also part of a larger British overseas territory called Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.

Stoltenhoff Island is very important for birds. It is part of a special area called an Important Bird Area (IBA). This area has been identified by BirdLife International. It is a crucial place where seabirds and unique landbirds come to breed and raise their young.

Why is it called Stoltenhoff Island?

The island is named after two brothers, Gustav and Friedrich Stoltenhoff. They tried to live on a nearby island called Inaccessible Island. Their attempt was very difficult and they gave up after two years. The island remembers their adventure.
