What Was Street King?
Street King was an energy drink that came in small bottles, like a "shot." Each shot was about 74 milliliters (2.5 fluid ounces). It had a lot of caffeine, about 285 milligrams. This is like drinking two or three cups of coffee.
The drink came in different flavors. Some of these were orange-mango and grape. Later, other flavors like strawberry lemonade, berry, and pomegranate were also available.
Helping Kids Around the World
One of the most important things about Street King was its mission. For every shot of Street King sold, a donation was made. This money helped provide a meal for a child in Africa. This was done through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).
Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson and Chris Clarke wanted to help children. They hoped to provide many meals through this project.
Helping Others
In September 2011, 50 Cent made a big promise. He said he wanted to help donate one billion meals to the World Food Programme over five years. This was a huge goal!
Each meal was supported by a 10-cent donation from each Street King shot sold. By January 2012, just a few months after launching, the project had already helped donate 3.5 million meals. This showed how much good the drink was doing.
How Street King Was Advertised
Street King was promoted a lot, especially online. In the summer of 2012, the drink changed its name to "SK Energy."
Many famous people helped advertise the drink. They appeared in videos and talked about it. Some of these celebrities included:
- Joan Rivers
- Pauly D
- Wes Welker, a football player
- Erin Andrews, a sports reporter
- J. R. Smith, a basketball player from the Cleveland Cavaliers
Why It Stopped
Even with all the celebrity support and good intentions, SK Energy faced challenges. By July 2015, the company was losing a lot of money each year. Because of this, the Street King energy drink was eventually stopped.
