What Was Street King?
50 Cent worked with Chris Clarke to launch this drink. The main idea was to help children in Africa. For every drink sold, a meal would be given to a child through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).
The company that made and sold Street King was called Street King LLC. It was based in New York, NY.
Drink Details
Street King was sold in small bottles, like shots. Each bottle held about 74 milliliters (2.5 fluid ounces). These shots had a lot of caffeine, about 285 milligrams. This is like drinking two or three cups of coffee.
The drink came in different flavors. Some of the first flavors were orange-mango and grape.
Helping Others: Philanthropy
In September 2011, 50 Cent made a big promise. He said he would help donate one billion meals to the World Food Programme over five years. If he reached this goal, he would be one of the biggest donors to the organization.
Each meal was paid for by a 10-cent donation. This donation came from each Street King shot that someone bought. Between September 2011 and January 2012, 50 Cent helped donate 3.5 million meals.
How It Was Advertised
In the summer of 2012, Street King changed its name. It was then called "SK Energy." The company used social media a lot to tell people about the drink. They made videos with famous people like Pauly D and Joan Rivers.
Many celebrities also supported the drink. These included Joan Rivers, Pauly D, football player Wes Welker, sports reporter Erin Andrews, and basketball player J. R. Smith.
Business Challenges
By July 2015, the SK Energy drink was losing money. According to 50 Cent's accountant, the company was losing millions of dollars each year.
