The History of Stringtown
How Stringtown Got Its Name
Have you ever wondered how places get their names? Stringtown got its name because of how its houses were built. They were "strung along" the main road, one after another, like beads on a string. This made it easy for people to describe where they lived.
Stringtown's Old Name: Zipp
Before it was known as Stringtown, this community had a different name: Zipp. This name came from Frank Zipp Jr., who was an early postmaster there. A post office was opened in Zipp in 1881. It helped people send and receive letters and packages. However, the post office closed down in 1902. After that, the name Zipp slowly faded away, and the community became known as Stringtown.
