Early Days and First Olympics
In 2007, when Ståle was just 13, he was invited to a special competition called The Arctic Challenge. The event's organizer, Terje Håkonsen, said Ståle was the best 13-year-old snowboarder in Norway.
Ståle went to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. He was the youngest Norwegian to compete in the Olympics since Sonja Henie in 1928. In the 2011–2012 season, Ståle won the World Snowboarding Tour in freestyle.
X Games Success
In 2013, Ståle won a bronze medal in Big Air at the Winter X Games. His fellow Norwegian, Torstein Horgmo, won the gold in that event.
At the 2014 Winter X Games, four Norwegians made it to the Big Air final. Ståle performed the best among them and won another bronze medal. The very next day, he won a second bronze medal, this time in Slopestyle.
Olympic Silver Medal
The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, were special because Slopestyle was included for the first time. Ståle competed in this event. In his first attempt, he tried a difficult trick called a triple cork but did not land it perfectly.
However, his second run was excellent. He scored 91.75 points, which earned him the silver medal. He finished just behind Sage Kotsenburg. This was Norway's first medal at the 2014 Olympics. Some experts believed Ståle should have won the gold medal because of his strong performance.
