Ståle Sandbech (born on June 3, 1993) is a professional snowboarder from Norway. He is known for his amazing skills in two types of snowboarding events: Big Air and Slopestyle. Ståle has competed in four Winter Olympics: 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022. He won a silver medal in Slopestyle at the 2014 Winter Olympics. He also has many medals from the Winter X Games and a gold medal from the 2017 World Championships.

Early Life and Start in Snowboarding

Ståle Sandbech grew up in Rykkinn, a place in Bærum, Norway. He started snowboarding when he was eight years old. He competes for the club BSK Snowboard. When he was 13, a famous snowboarder named Terje Håkonsen said Ståle was the best young snowboarder in Norway. This was after Ståle was invited to a special competition called The Arctic Challenge in 2007.

Olympic Appearances and Achievements

Ståle Sandbech has represented Norway in the Winter Olympics multiple times.

  • In 2010, he went to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. He was the youngest Norwegian to go to the Olympics in 82 years! The last person that young was Sonja Henie in 1928.
  • At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Slopestyle was a new event. Ståle won a silver medal, which was Norway's first medal at those games. Many people thought he should have won gold because of his impressive performance.
  • He also competed in the 2018 Winter Olympics and the 2022 Winter Olympics. In 2018, he finished fourth in Slopestyle, just missing a medal. In 2022, he placed 11th in Slopestyle and 16th in Big Air.

Success at the X Games and World Championships

Ståle Sandbech has won many medals at the Winter X Games, which are big competitions for extreme sports.

  • In 2013, he won a bronze medal in Big Air at the Winter X Games XVII.
  • The next year, at the 2014 Winter X Games, he won two bronze medals: one in Big Air and another in Slopestyle.
  • In 2015, he earned a silver medal in Slopestyle at the Winter X Games XIX in Aspen, Colorado.
  • He won another silver medal in Slopestyle at the 2017 Winter X Games Europe in Hafjell.
  • Ståle also won a gold medal at the 2017 World Championships in Big Air.

Recent Competitions

In 2022, Ståle Sandbech continued to show his skills. He placed second at the LAAX Open 2022, earning a silver medal in Slopestyle.
