Sublette, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Sublette is a small place in the northern part of Adair County, Missouri, in the United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town does. Instead, it's usually managed by the county. You can find Sublette along U.S. Route 63, which is a major road. It's about six miles north of a bigger city called Kirksville.

The Story of Sublette

Sublette began to take shape in 1869. It was planned and settled by people named P. J. and Sarah R. Sublette, and the community was named after them.

Before the community was officially "laid out," a post office was opened in Sublette in 1868. A post office is where people send and receive letters and packages. This post office served the community for many years, helping people stay connected. It finally closed its doors in 1933.
