Sue Jean Covacevich (born Sue Jean Hill, 1905–1998) was an important artist from Wellington, Kansas, USA. Her colorful art included paintings, prints, murals, and stained glass. She often showed the beautiful landscapes of Kansas. Her art was also greatly shaped by her time living in Mexico and her many trips around the world.

Sue Jean taught art for over 40 years to students of all ages. She started the Winfield Art Center. She also helped create art therapy programs at the Winfield State Hospital. For this important work, she received an honorary doctorate degree from Southwestern College in Kansas.

Sue Jean Covacevich was inspired by many other famous artists. When she studied at Bethany College in Lindsborg, she learned alongside Birger Sandzén. He was also known for his landscape art.

Her Time in Mexico

While in Mexico, Sue Jean was greatly inspired by the mural painters of that time. These artists included Diego Rivera, who was married to Frida Kahlo. During her time at the San Carlos Arts School, Sue Jean met Diego Rivera. He even gave her advice on her artwork.
