Why is it called Sugar Bush?
The name "Sugar Bush" comes from the many sugar maple trees that grew there. These trees are famous for their sweet sap, which is used to make maple syrup. Long ago, the area was also known as Schiller.
A Look Back in Time
Early Days and Community Life
The community of Sugar Bush has a rich history. In 1872, a church called St. Hubert Parish was started. It was a special church that helped the Walloon Belgian people who lived in the area. Walloons are a group of people from Belgium who speak French.
The First Post Office
As the community grew, people needed ways to send and receive mail. In 1887, a man named Telesphore Charlier helped with this. He owned a hotel, a place to eat, and a stable for horses. He also opened the first post office in Sugar Bush. This made it easier for people to connect with others far away.
