Summerside was not always called by its current name. It was first known as "East Mount Carmel." The community's name changed to Summerside around August 1887. This change happened when a post office was opened in the area.

Summerside is found in the western part of Clermont County, Ohio. It is in the western section of Union Township. To the south, Summerside shares a border with Mount Carmel.
Two important roads are near Summerside. Ohio State Route 32 forms part of its southern border. Interstate 275 runs along its eastern side. You can get to Summerside from Exit 63 on Interstate 275. This is where it meets Route 32.
If you travel about 16 miles (26 kilometers) west on Route 32 and U.S. Route 50, you will reach downtown Cincinnati.
