Summit is a small place in Blount County, Alabama, in the United States. It is called an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county.
Summit is located about 10.1 miles (16.3 km) northeast of Blountsville. You can find it along County Route 48 (CR-48), which is close to US-231 and State Route 53.
Caves of Alabama
Alabama is famous for its many caves! The northeast part of the state, where Summit is located, is a special area for caves. It's often called a "hotspot" because there are so many caves there. These caves are home to many different animals.
About two-thirds of all the caves in Alabama are found in this northeastern region. Caves form in areas where the ground has a type of rock called "carbonate rock." This rock, like limestone, can be slowly dissolved by water over thousands of years, creating amazing underground tunnels and rooms.

Summit is also known for its connection to a famous short story! The well-known American writer O. Henry chose Summit as the setting for his story called "The Ransom of Red Chief."
O. Henry was famous for his surprise endings and stories about everyday life. "The Ransom of Red Chief" is a funny tale about two kidnappers who try to get money for a boy, but the boy turns out to be more trouble than they can handle! The story uses the idea of Summit's many caves as a place where the characters hide.
