History of Sun-Pat
Early Years and Factory Moves
Sun-Pat had a factory in Peckham, South London. During World War II, on October 15, 1940, this factory was hit during a bombing raid. This event caused damage and injuries.
In 1958, H S Whiteside bought another company called Maconochie Brothers. Because of this, Sun-Pat's production moved to a new factory in Hadfield, which is near Manchester.
Changes in Ownership
A few years later, in 1967, the H S Whiteside company was bought by Rowntree's, a well-known confectionery company. Then, in June 1988, Nestlé took over Rowntrees. This meant Sun-Pat became part of Nestlé's large group of brands.
In the early 1990s, Sun-Pat also made some cheese spreads, but these were later stopped.
Recent Ownership Changes
In May 2002, a company called Premier Foods bought Nestlé's "ambient food" business, which included Sun-Pat. The factory in Hadfield closed in 2004, and the production of Sun-Pat peanut butter moved to Histon, Cambridgeshire.
Finally, in October 2012, Hain Celestial Group bought Premier Foods' spreads and jellies business. This is why Hain Celestial Group is the current owner of Sun-Pat.
