Sunbury is a small place in Cedar County, Iowa, in the United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.

Sunbury is located in the southeastern part of Cedar County. You can find it just west of where County Roads F44 and Y26 meet. It is southeast of Bennett and north of Durant. About 50 people are estimated to live there.

History of Sunbury

Sunbury started to grow when the railroad came to the area. The railroad helped connect places and made it easier for people and goods to travel. This often led to new communities forming along the tracks.

In 1902, only 13 people lived in Sunbury. By 1925, the population had grown quite a bit to 107 people. This shows that the community was becoming more active.

Sunbury was once home to the Sunbury Dance Hall. This popular spot opened around 1895 and was a place for people to gather and have fun. It closed its doors in 1964. The community also had its own bank, which opened in 1901. This bank helped local people with their money. However, the bank building was empty for many years and was taken down in 2014.
