History of Durant
Durant was first planned out in 1854 by a person named Benjamin Brayton. The city was originally called Brayton, after him.
A railroad, the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad, was built through Durant in 1855. Later, the city's name was changed to Durant. This new name honored Thomas C. Durant. He was an important person in building the first Transcontinental Railroad. He also gave a lot of money to help build Durant's first public school.
