Sunday Islet is a small island located in far north Queensland, Australia. It sits about 2.5 kilometers north of the Cape Grenville Peninsula. This tiny island is part of the amazing Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
A Name from the Past
Sunday Islet got its name from a famous explorer. On May 31, 1789, Captain Bligh arrived at this island. He was with the sailors who stayed loyal to him. They were traveling in a small boat after a big event. This event was the mutiny on his ship, the Bounty. Captain Bligh named the island "Sunday Island" because they landed there on a Sunday. This story makes the small island quite special!
