Sunderbruch Park is a large park covering about 134-acre (0.54 km2) in the west part of Davenport, Iowa, United States. This park is mostly natural and has three different types of trails for outdoor fun: hiking, off-road biking, and horseback riding.
The off-road biking trails are about seven miles (11.2 km) long. They offer different challenge levels, from easy "green" trails to very difficult "black diamond" trails.
- Green Trails: These are two miles (3.2 km) of easy paths through the woods. You'll find a few small log crossings, a ladder bridge, and some corduroy sections (logs laid side-by-side).
- Blue Trails: These trails have moderate changes in height, some areas with roots, and sloped terrain. They also feature various corduroy sections and log crossings.
- Black Trails: These are the most challenging! They have steep climbs and descents, creek crossings, narrow winding paths, roots, "skinnies" (narrow bridges), drops, and many log crossings.
Besides the biking trails, there are also 4.5 miles (7.24 km) of trails just for horseback riding.

The Story of Sunderbruch Park
The city of Davenport bought the land for this park in the 1970s. Back then, it was called Southwest Park, but it didn't have any park features until 2005.
How the Trails Were Built
In 2005, a group of volunteers called the QC Friends of Off-Road Cycling started building the off-road bike trails. They also created the first routes for the horseback riding trails. Horseback riding fans later took over and improved these trails. Sunderbruch Park is special because it's the only park in Davenport where you can ride horses.
Who Was Dr. Sunderbruch?
In 2006, the park was named after Dr. John Sunderbruch. He was a doctor in Davenport, a leader in the community, and lived in the west end of the city his whole life.
Future Plans for the Park
There are plans to connect Sunderbruch Park to other popular trails in the area. These include the Duck Creek Parkway and the Riverfront Parkway. This will make it easier for people to explore more of Davenport's beautiful outdoor spaces.
