The Duck Creek Parkway is a super cool trail located in the cities of Davenport and Bettendorf in Iowa, a state in the United States. This amazing pathway stretches for 13.5 miles (about 21.7 kilometers). It winds its way along Duck Creek, passing through many different parks. It's the oldest recreational trail in the Quad Cities area, which means it's been around for a long time!

What is Duck Creek Parkway?

The Duck Creek Parkway is a long, paved path perfect for walking, running, and biking. It's a great place for families and friends to enjoy nature and get some exercise. The parkway connects many different parks, making it easy to explore various green spaces in the cities.

A Path Through History

The story of the Duck Creek Parkway actually began way back in the 1930s. That's when the very first part of the path was built. Back then, it was more of a road through a park. The design we see today, with its special bike path, was created in the 1970s. So, it has a rich history of serving the community for many decades.

Exploring the Parkway

The parkway is quite long, covering 13.5 miles in total. About 8.36 miles (13.45 km) of it are in Davenport, and the other 5.14 miles (8.27 km) are in Bettendorf. It starts on the west side of Davenport and travels all the way to the eastern part of Bettendorf. Along the way, you'll find many fun parks to stop and explore.

Parks in Davenport

In Davenport, the parkway begins at Emeis Park and Golf Course. From there, it goes through several other parks, including:

  • Northwest Park
  • Marquette Park
  • Junge Park
  • Garfield Park
  • Eastern Avenue Park
  • Duck Creek Park and Golf Course (This is where the parkway crosses into Bettendorf!)

Parks in Bettendorf

Once the parkway enters Bettendorf, it continues its journey through more beautiful parks:

  • Middle Park
  • Veterans Memorial Park
  • Devils Glen Park (This is where the parkway currently ends.)

Connecting Communities

There have been discussions and plans to connect the Duck Creek Parkway with other trails in the area. These ideas include linking it up with the Riverfront Parkway and Sunderbruch Park. If these connections happen, it would create an even bigger network of trails for everyone to enjoy!
