Famous Golfers and Tournaments
The Emeis Golf Course opened in a very exciting way. On August 19, 1961, two of the most famous golfers ever played there. Arnold Palmer and Gary Player had an exhibition match. Gary Player won that day, shooting a score of 68 to Arnold Palmer's 69.
The course has a reputation for being challenging. From 1966 to 1968, Golf Digest magazine called it one of "America's Toughest Golf Courses." It is still known as Davenport's most challenging public golf course.
Emeis has also hosted important golf events. It held the NAIA Men's Golf Championship in 1962 and 1967. Each year, it hosts the Quad-City Amateur Golf Tournament.
