Sungji Hong facts for kids
Sungji Hong (Korean: 홍성지) (born in 1973) is a talented composer from South Korea. She writes music, and one of her famous pieces is called Missa Lumen de Lumine. She wrote this music in 2002 for a group called Trio Mediæval. This group recorded her music in 2005. A music reviewer named Ivan Moody said it had "some dazzling moments."

Her Amazing Awards
Sungji Hong has received many important awards for her music. In 2022, she was given a Guggenheim Fellowship. This is a special award given to people who show great ability in arts and sciences. She also received a Charles Ives Fellowship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2022. In 2024, she was awarded a Civitella Ranieri Foundation Fellowship.
She also received "commissions" from the Fromm Music Foundation in 2004 and again in 2019. A commission means someone asks a composer to write a new piece of music, and they pay for it.

Currently, Sungji Hong is an Associate Professor of Music Composition. She teaches students how to compose music at the University of North Texas.
