Sunnyvale, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Sunnyvale was once a small village located in the northern part of Newton County, Missouri. It was a separate community for many years. However, in 1987, Sunnyvale became part of a larger city.

Sunnyvale's Story

Sunnyvale was a village that no longer exists as a separate town. It was located in the state of Missouri, in a county called Newton County. This area is in the central United States.

Joining Joplin

In 1987, Sunnyvale officially joined the nearby city of Joplin. This process is called a "merger." When two towns merge, they become one larger city. This means Sunnyvale's local government and services became part of Joplin's.

Where Was Sunnyvale?

Before the merger, Joplin surrounded Sunnyvale on almost all sides. Imagine Joplin as a big circle, and Sunnyvale was a smaller circle inside it. The only part of Sunnyvale not touching Joplin was its western side. On that side, it bordered another small community called Midway. Interestingly, Midway also merged with Joplin around the same time.

The northern edge of Sunnyvale was marked by a road. This road is known as Missouri Supplemental Route FF. People also call this road 32nd Street. This street formed the boundary between Sunnyvale and Joplin to the north.
