Sunrise State Park is a fun outdoor spot in East Haddam, Connecticut. It used to be a vacation resort called Sunrise Resort. This state park covers 143 acres of land. It sits right on the east side of the Salmon River. You can find it next to Machimoodus State Park. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection takes care of the park.

What is the History of Sunrise State Park?
The land where Sunrise State Park is now has a long history. In 1916, it started as a vacation spot. It was first known as Ted Hilton's Vacation Hide-A-Way. Later, it became the Frank Davis Resort. Finally, it was called Sunrise Resort.
How Did the State Get the Park Land?
The state of Connecticut bought the property in 2009. They paid $3.2 million for it. At first, the state hoped to keep the resort buildings. They wanted to use them for meetings and camping. However, they could not find anyone to fix up the old buildings.
What Happened to the Old Resort Buildings?
In 2013, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection decided to tear down most buildings. More than 80 old resort buildings were removed. This allowed the land to go back to its natural state. Some old buildings are still there, but they are closed off.
