Machimoodus State Park is a fun place in East Haddam, Connecticut, USA. It is a public park where you can enjoy nature and outdoor activities. The park sits right next to the Salmon River and is close to the village of Moodus.
To the north, Machimoodus State Park touches Sunrise State Park. The Salmon River and Salmon Cove border it to the west and south. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection takes care of this beautiful state park.

What's in a Name? The Park's History
The name Machimoodus comes from the Native Americans who lived here long ago. They called this area "the place of bad noises." Modern science has found that these noises were actually echoes from tiny microearthquakes. These are very small earthquakes that you might not even feel.
How Machimoodus State Park Was Created
Machimoodus State Park was created in 1998. The state of Connecticut bought a dairy farm called Echo Farm for $2.1 million to make the park. This land became a wonderful place for everyone to visit.
The park is also right next to Sunrise State Park. Sunrise State Park used to be a summer resort, a place where people went for vacations. The state bought Sunrise State Park in 2008.
