Supastition is an American hip hop artist from Greenville, North Carolina. His real name is Kamaarphial Moye. He is also known by the names Kam Moye and Blackmel. He has worked with many famous artists like KRS-One, The RZA, Tech N9ne, and Little Brother.

Starting His Music Journey

Supastition began his music career using the name Blackmel. He later changed his artist name to Supastition. He explained that he chose this name because people didn't believe in his music at first. He wanted to prove himself to everyone.

First Steps in Music

Supastition signed a deal with a rapper named Rasco. Rasco owned a record label called Pockets Linted Entertainment. Through this label, Supastition released two songs on a 12-inch vinyl record. These songs were "Broke Man's Anthem" and "Battle Cry." Supastition even produced these songs himself.

7 Years of Bad Luck Album

In 2002, Supastition signed a deal with Freshchest Records. This company helped release his first album, called 7 Years of Bad Luck. A music video was also made for his song "da Waiting Period." This song was about being a "starving artist," meaning an artist who struggles to make money.

Challenges with His First Album

Even though critics liked the honest words in the album, some thought the music beats were not very good. Supastition later said he was not happy with the album. He explained that the record company made him use their own beats instead of the ones he wanted. This led to him leaving the company and stopping promotion for the album.

The Deadline and Chain Letters

In 2004, Supastition started to get more attention. His song "The Williams" was chosen for a special music collection called True Notes Vol. 1. This song was a collaboration with producer Nicolay. Later that year, Supastition signed with Soulspazm Records.

Gaining More Recognition

Soulspazm Records released two of his most popular works: The Deadline and Chain Letters. These projects featured music from well-known producers like Nicolay, Jake One, and M-Phazes. He also performed with other artists like Little Brother.

These releases received great reviews in many music magazines. Because of this success, Supastition was able to tour in over 12 different countries. However, the company that distributed his music suddenly closed down. This caused problems for many artists. Supastition then decided to leave Soulspazm Records when they started working with another label, Rawkus Records. He felt that working with Rawkus Records was not a good idea for him.

Changing His Name to Kam Moye

After being in a car accident, Supastition felt inspired to make more positive music. He decided to use a shorter version of his real name, Kam Moye. On June 17, 2008, he released an album called Self-Centered under this new name.

New Music and New Challenges

A music video for his song "Black Enough?" became very popular online. This video talked about important issues within the African-American community. In 2009, Kam Moye started working with Hall of Justus Music Group. He also signed with MYX Music label.

His album Splitting Image was released on October 27, 2009. Fans had mixed feelings about it, as some expected his older, tougher sound. The main song, "Let's Be Honest," was played on MTVu. In May 2010, the MYX Music Label stopped its operations in the U.S.

Leaving and Returning to Music

Because of his frustrations with the music business, Kam Moye announced on April 25, 2010, that he was leaving music. However, in late 2012, he shared that he was returning to music. He decided to go back to using his original artist name, Supastition.

In early 2013, he released an album called The Blackboard. On February 18, 2014, Supastition released another album called Honest Living. This album was produced entirely by an artist named Croup.
