Susana Solano (born in 1946) is a famous Spanish artist. She is well-known for creating large sculptures. Many of her artworks are made from materials like metal sheets and wire mesh. Susana Solano lives and works in the city of Barcelona, Spain.

Early Life and Learning

Susana Solano was born in Barcelona in 1946. She studied art at a well-known art school there, the Real acadèmia Catalana de bellas artes de San Jorge.

When she first started her art career, Susana Solano was a painter. But by the late 1970s, she began to create the unique sculptures she is famous for today. Solano has shared that her childhood memories of Barcelona often inspire her artwork.

How She Creates Art

Susana Solano started making sculptures after she stopped painting. Her very first sculptures were made from canvas that hung down.

Later, she mostly used sheet iron for her sculptures. At first, her sculptures looked more natural and organic. But in the mid-1980s, her art changed. Her sculptures became more simple and geometric, using shapes like squares and circles. Around this time, she also started adding other materials, such as glass and wire mesh, to her sculptures.

Besides her sculptures, Susana Solano has also created many works on paper throughout her career.
