Sutphen is a small, unincorporated community in Dickinson County, Kansas, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government. You can find Sutphen north of where 3100 Avenue and Paint Road cross.

The Story of Sutphen

Sutphen got its name from a town called Zutphen in the Netherlands. It's interesting how places in America sometimes get names from other countries!

For many years, Sutphen had its own post office. It opened in 1879. Until 1894, it was actually called "Sutphen's Mill Post Office." The post office served the community for quite a while before closing in 1905.
