Suwannee Springs is a special place in Florida, found right on the Suwannee River. It's not a big city, but a small, spread-out community in Suwannee County. This area is famous for its natural springs, which are like underground rivers bubbling up to the surface.

Discover Suwannee Springs

Suwannee Springs is an unincorporated community. This means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the larger county government.

What Makes Suwannee Springs Special?

At Suwannee Springs, you'll find at least six natural springs. Five of these springs flow directly into the south side of the Suwannee River. The main spring is quite unique. It flows inside a large, man-made wall. This wall is about fifteen feet high and three feet thick. It's made from limestone rock and was built a long time ago, in the late 1890s.

The Amazing Water

Suwannee Springs is known as a "second magnitude spring." This term describes how much water flows out of the spring. A second magnitude spring has a strong flow, averaging about 23.4 cubic feet of water per second. That's like filling a small swimming pool very quickly!

The water in the spring comes from Oligocene age limestone. This type of rock formed millions of years ago. The water itself is known as "sulphur water," which means it has a slight smell due to natural minerals. Even better, the water stays at a comfortable temperature all year round, usually between 70 and 76 degrees Fahrenheit.
