Svjetlan Junaković (born on January 23, 1961) is a talented artist from Croatia. He is well-known for his amazing paintings, sculptures, and especially his illustrations for children's picture books. His work has won many international awards. He has also shown his art in exhibitions all over Europe.
Svjetlan Junaković was even a finalist for the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2008 and 2010. This award is a very important international prize for children's authors and illustrators. Being a finalist means he is one of the best children's illustrators in the world!
About Svjetlan Junaković
Svjetlan Junaković was born in Zagreb, Croatia, in 1961. He studied art at the Brera Academy in Milan, Italy. He finished his studies there in 1985, focusing on sculpture.
Today, Junaković works as a painter, sculptor, and illustrator. He also teaches others about illustration. He is a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. He also teaches at the International School in Sarmede, Italy.
Awards and Recognitions
Svjetlan Junaković has received many awards for his wonderful illustrations. In 2001, he won prizes at the Biennial of Illustration Bratislava. This was for his books Mit Pauken und Trompeten (which means With Bass Drums and Trumpets) and Roter Frosch, grüner Flamingo (meaning Red Frog, Greener Flamingo).
In 2009, he won the important Levstik Award. He received this award for his illustrations in the book 100 + 1 uganka (which translates to 100 + 1 Riddles). These awards show how much his art is loved and respected around the world.
