Swan Lake is a beautiful and important lake located in Waldo County, Maine. It is the second largest lake in this area. Swan Lake is a popular spot for many activities and is surrounded by towns and a state park.

How Did Swan Lake Get Its Name?
Swan Lake was not always called by its current name. Long ago, it was known as Goose Pond.
During the 1800s, people started calling it Swan Lake more often. This new name came from the nearby town of Swanville, Maine. Before it became an official town, Swanville was known as the "Plantation of Swan." So, the lake took its name from this local area.
How Does Swan Lake Work?
Swan Lake is connected to the Goose River. The lake's water flows out into the Goose River through a small dam.
This dam is owned and managed by a company called Goose River Hydro, Inc. This company also has the rights to use the water.
Who Manages the Lake's Water?
In 1979, an important agreement was made about Swan Lake. This agreement was between the towns of Swanville, Searsport, and Frankfort, along with Goose River Hydro, Inc.
The agreement helps make sure the lake's water levels are kept just right. It also explains that Goose River Hydro is responsible for taking care of the dam and the land around it. This helps keep the lake healthy for everyone.
Where is Swan Lake Located?
Most of Swan Lake is located within the town of Swanville. Parts of the lake also stretch into the towns of Searsport and Frankfort.
About 350 homes are built along the lake's edge. On the north side of the lake, you can find Swan Lake State Park. This park is a great place for people to visit and enjoy the outdoors.
