The Sweden women's national bandy team plays for Sweden in the exciting winter sport of bandy. They compete in the Women's Bandy World Championship. The team is managed by the Swedish Bandy Association. Did you know they won the very first women's bandy world championship back in 2004?
History of Swedish Women's Bandy
The first recorded international match for women's bandy was between Sweden and Finland. This historic game happened in Helsinki, Finland, in 1935. It took place at the Helsingfors Ice Stadium. Parts of this match were even filmed by British Pathé!
Another friendly international game was played in Kemi in 1980. In that match, Sweden showed their strength by beating Finland with a score of 14-3.
Sweden at the Women's Bandy World Championship
The Swedish team has taken part in every single Women's Bandy World Championship. The first tournament was held in 2004.
Sweden has won almost every championship tournament! Their only loss in a final was in 2014. In that year, they lost to the Russian team.
For the 2016 Women's Bandy World Championship, the team even got its own official song. It was called "Watch Out" by a group named Furfobia.
