Swiss Chalet is a popular Canadian restaurant chain. It started in 1954 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Swiss Chalet is famous for its delicious rotisserie chicken.
You can find Swiss Chalet restaurants in most parts of Canada. About 80% of them are in Ontario. The company is part of Recipe Unlimited, which also owns other restaurant brands like Harvey's. Sometimes, you'll find a Swiss Chalet and a Harvey's restaurant in the same building!
Swiss Chalet restaurants often look like cozy, old-fashioned chalets. They usually have a dining room where you can eat. They also have a counter for take-out orders and offer delivery. Some locations even have a drive-thru window. You can also order food online. Plus, you can buy their special Chalet sauce and gravy mixes in grocery stores!
The Story of Swiss Chalet
The very first Swiss Chalet restaurant opened in 1954. It was located on Bloor Street West in Toronto. This original restaurant stayed open for 52 years! It was founded by Rick Mauran. The building itself looked like a traditional Swiss chalet. This first restaurant closed in 2006. It was later taken down to make way for new buildings.
In 2008, Air Canada started offering Swiss Chalet meals on some of its flights. This meant you could enjoy their food even while flying!
In February 2015, Swiss Chalet teamed up with the Scene+ loyalty program. This allows customers to earn and use points when they eat at Swiss Chalet.
In 2016, the company that owns Swiss Chalet, Cara Operations (now Recipe Unlimited), bought another big chicken restaurant chain. They bought St-Hubert, which is a very popular chain in Quebec. This made their company even bigger!
What's on the Menu?
The main food at Swiss Chalet is their amazing rotisserie chicken. This chicken is slow-roasted until it's super tender and juicy.
Their most famous meal is the Quarter Chicken Dinner. It comes with a roasted chicken leg or breast. You also get their special "Chalet Sauce" to dip your chicken in. A warm bread roll and a side dish are included too.
The most popular side dish is their "Chalet fries." These fries have been changed a couple of times over the years. Some people loved the changes, while others preferred the old ones!
