The post office in Switz City first opened in 1869. The town got its name from the Switz family. They were some of the very first people to settle in this area.

Famous People from Switz City
Switz City is known as the hometown of three brothers who were great basketball players. Their names are Andrew, A. J., and Matthew Graves. All three brothers played college basketball for Butler University.
After college, A. J. Graves played basketball professionally in other countries. Matthew Graves became a basketball coach. He was the head coach for the South Alabama team from 2013 to 2018.
