Sydney Smith is a talented Canadian artist who creates amazing pictures for children's books. He is known for his beautiful illustrations that tell stories.
In 2024, Sydney Smith won the important Hans Christian Andersen Award. This award is like a Nobel Prize for children's literature. He received it for making a "lasting contribution to children's literature," which means his books will be loved for a very long time.
He also won the Governor General's Award in 2015. This was for his illustrations in the book Sidewalk Flowers. This book is special because it's a wordless picture book. This means it tells a story mostly through pictures, with very few or no words. He worked on Sidewalk Flowers with author JonArno Lawson. Sydney Smith lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
