Sylvester Hicks is a former American football player. He was a defensive end. He played for the Kansas City Chiefs for four seasons. The Chiefs picked him in the 1978 NFL draft. He played college football at Tennessee State University before that.
Early Life and College Years
Sylvester Hicks was born on April 2, 1955. His hometown was Jackson, Tennessee. He went to North Side High School there.
After high school, he played college football. He joined the Tennessee State Tigers team. This was at Tennessee State University. He played for them from 1973 to 1976. He was a key player for three of those years.
Playing in the NFL
The Kansas City Chiefs chose Sylvester Hicks. This happened in the 1978 NFL draft. He was the 29th player picked overall. He officially joined the team on May 29, 1978.
In his first year, 1978, he started all 16 games. He made 5.5 sacks. He also recovered one fumble. The Chiefs finished that season with a 4–12 record.
In 1979, he played in all 16 games again. He started 13 of them. He recorded two sacks that year.
