Sylvester Rhem was born in Chicago, Illinois, on November 19, 1929. He grew up in Chicago and went to public schools there. In 1948, he graduated from Englewood High School. He continued his education and earned a college degree in public administration from DePaul University. This degree helped him learn about how governments work.

Career in Public Service

After finishing college, Sylvester Rhem joined the Chicago Police Department. He worked as a police officer, helping to keep the city safe. Police officers play an important role in communities by enforcing laws and helping people.

Later, he decided to get involved in politics. From 1981 to 1985, he served in the Illinois House of Representatives. This is a group of elected officials who make laws for the state of Illinois. He was a member of the Democratic Party. As a politician, he worked to represent the people of his district and make decisions that would benefit them.

Personal Details

Sylvester Rhem was a Catholic. He was also a member of the Knights of Peter Claver, which is a group for Catholic African-American men. He passed away on June 14, 2007.
