Tŷ Nant is a special brand of mineral water that comes from Wales. It is bottled right at its source in a place called Bethania, in Ceredigion. The name Tŷ Nant means "House by the stream" in the Welsh language.
How Tŷ Nant Water Was Found
The natural spring where Tŷ Nant water comes from was found in 1976. A person who could find water using a special stick, called a water diviner, discovered it.
To get the water, a deep hole was dug. This hole went through 100 feet of rock and clay. It reached an underground water source called an aquifer. This water was perfect for drinking!
In December 1996, Tŷ Nant built a new factory to bottle their water. This factory was very big, about 45,000 square feet. It helped them bottle five times more water than before. The factory was built right above the original spring found in 1976.
Cool Bottles and New Drinks
Tŷ Nant first launched its famous cobalt blue glass bottles in 1989. These bottles were so well designed that they won an award! It was called the British "First Glass" Award for Design Excellence.
In 1999, to celebrate 10 years, they made a new bottle. It was a bright crimson red and was called "Tŷ Nant Too."
Later, in 2001, Tŷ Nant started selling water in PET bottles. These are lighter plastic bottles. In 2003, they launched a brand new spring water called TAU. This new drink also had an award-winning bottle design.
Who Owns Tŷ Nant Now?
In 1992, an Italian company bought Tŷ Nant. This company, called Biscaldi Luigi Import Export Srl, used to distribute Tŷ Nant water. Now they own the brand.
