Thomas Douglas Good (born in 1874, died in 1958) was a famous Irish badminton player. He made history in the sport and played alongside his family members.

Early Badminton Success

Thomas Douglas Good was a talented badminton player from Ireland. He achieved a special first at the 1902 All England Badminton Championships. Playing in the men's handicap doubles with John Stokes, he became the very first non-English player to win a title at this major event. This was a big moment for Irish badminton!

Playing in Ireland

In 1903, Thomas Good and his wife, Ada Good, were part of the first international badminton match ever played in Ireland. It was an exciting event for the sport in their home country. In that same year, Thomas reached the men's singles final, but he lost to Blayney Hamilton.

Winning Championships

Thomas Good continued to achieve great things in badminton. He teamed up with Blayney Hamilton to win the men's doubles title at the Irish Open three times: in 1904, 1907, and 1908. Later, in 1913, he won the men's doubles at the Irish National Badminton Championships with his partner Arthur Cave.

Family and Legacy

Thomas Good's love for badminton was shared by his family. In 1953, he attended a special Golden Jubilee lunch. This event celebrated 50 years of the Badminton Union of Ireland. Thomas, his wife Ada, Sir George Thomas, and Leonard Ransford were the only four players still alive from those first international matches in 1903.

Thomas and Ada had four children. Three of their children also became excellent badminton players. They played at both national and international levels. These talented children were Derreen, Barbara, and Norman.
