T. Velmurugan is an Indian politician. He is a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Tamil Nadu. This means he is elected by people to represent them in the state's law-making body.
He was chosen by voters from the Panruti area. He won elections in 2001, 2006, and 2021. He is known for supporting Tamil culture and language. He also started his own political party called Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK).
Early Life
T. Velmurugan was born in 1970. His birthplace was Puliyur Kattusagai village. This village is in the Kurinchipadi area of Cuddalore district. He grew up in a farming family. He was the fifth child of Thirunavukkarasu and Tanakkodi.
When he was 15, he became interested in a group called the Tamil Nadu Liberation Force. He went to their meetings and events. In 1987, the government took action against this group. Because of this, Velmurugan and his family moved to Chennai.
Political Journey
Velmurugan began his political career with the PMK party. He became the city secretary for Tiruvottiyur.
In 1996, he ran for election in the Thiruvettiyur area. After this, he became the State Youth Secretary for his party.
Later, a leader named Panruti Ramachandran left the party. Velmurugan then became the secretary for the entire Cuddalore district. He successfully ran for election in the Panruti Assembly elections in 2001. He won again in 2006, continuing to serve the people.
Velmurugan later started his own political party. It is called the Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi. This party focuses on the rights and well-being of people in Tamil Nadu.
