Cuddalore District is a special area, or 'district,' located in the southern part of India, in the state of Tamil Nadu. The main city and center of this district is Cuddalore. Because it's right by the sea, Cuddalore District often experiences strong storms called cyclones. It was also greatly affected by big floods in 2015.

Geography of Cuddalore
Cuddalore District covers an area of about 3,564 square kilometers. It shares its borders with other districts. To the north is Viluppuram District. To the east, it meets the Bay of Bengal, a large part of the Indian Ocean. To the south, you'll find Nagapattinam District, and to the west is Perambalur District. Several rivers flow through this district, including the Gadilam River and Pennaiyar River in the north, and the Vellar River and Kollidam River in the south.
Economy and Development
In 2006, the government identified Cuddalore as one of the areas needing extra support for development. It was listed among 250 districts that were considered 'backward' at the time. This means it receives special funds from a program called the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme (BRGF) to help it grow and improve.
People and Population
According to a survey in 2011, Cuddalore District had a population of 2,605,914 people. For every 1,000 males, there were about 987 females. This is called the sex ratio. About 279,950 children were under the age of six. The district's average literacy rate was around 69.66%. This means that almost 7 out of 10 people could read and write. The main languages spoken here are Tamil and English.
