TJ Maxx (also written as T•J•maxx) is a popular American store chain. It sells many different items at lower prices than regular department stores. You can find clothing, shoes, toys, beauty products, and things for your home.
TJ Maxx has over 1,000 stores across the United States. This makes it one of the biggest clothing sellers in the country. It is the main store chain of a larger company called TJX Companies.
TJ Maxx and Marshalls are like sister stores. They are very similar and often have the same kinds of products. Their prices are usually the same too. Sometimes, one store might have slightly different items than the other. But generally, they offer a similar shopping experience.

The Story of TJ Maxx

TJ Maxx started in 1976 in Framingham, Massachusetts. It was founded by Bernard Cammarata. He worked with a company called Zayre. Zayre wanted to buy Marshalls, another store, but couldn't. So, they hired Bernard Cammarata to create a new store like Marshalls.
This new store, TJ Maxx, became very successful. Because of this success, Zayre changed its name to TJX Companies, Incorporated, in 1988. Later, in 1995, TJX Companies bought Marshalls.
In 1998, TJ Maxx opened another store chain called A.J. Wright. However, these stores closed in 2007.
In 2009, TJX launched its online shopping website. At first, it only sold handbags. But over time, they added more items. Now you can buy clothes, shoes, jewelry, and home goods online.
Outside of North America, TJ Maxx stores are known as TK Maxx. The name was changed to avoid confusion. There was already a store in the United Kingdom called T. J. Hughes.

TJ Maxx and similar stores are very popular. They offer good deals on items that might cost more elsewhere. This is because they buy products from different brands at lower prices. Then, they sell them to customers for less.

In 2007, TJ Maxx announced a computer security problem. Hackers had gotten into their computer systems. They accessed information about credit and debit cards used by customers. This happened between 2003 and 2007.
Many TJX stores were affected by this. This included TJ Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, and others in the United States. Stores in Canada and possibly the UK and Ireland were also affected.
People around the world were charged for their part in this hacking. In 2010, a person involved in the hacking was found responsible for stealing card details.
