It was thought to be the second most important title in TNA. The championship was stopped on July 3, 2014. This decision was made by Kurt Angle, who was in charge of TNA at the time. The title was brought back on June 25, 2015. It was given a new name: "TNA King of the Mountain Championship." The championship was officially retired on August 13, 2016.

Championship History

How the Title Started

Booker T, a famous wrestler, first showed this championship. He took it out of a metal briefcase he had been carrying. He called it the "TNA Legends Championship." Booker T then said he was the first champion.

First Champion and Name Changes

A.J. Styles won the championship from Booker T. This happened at an event called Destination X on March 15, 2009. When Styles won, he became the first TNA Grand Slam Champion. This means he had won four different major titles in TNA.

A person named Jim Cornette, who managed TNA, made the championship official. He said it was a real TNA title because Styles won it fairly.

Later, when Eric Young held the championship, he changed its name. On October 29, 2009, he called it the "TNA Global Championship." Young said he would not defend it against American wrestlers. He also said he would not defend it in America.

Rob Terry defeated Eric Young in Wales on January 27, 2010. Terry then lost the championship to A.J. Styles. This happened on July 22, 2010. Styles changed the name again on July 29, 2010. He called it the "TNA Television Championship."

Title Retirement and Return

On July 3, 2014, Kurt Angle announced that the Television Championship would no longer be used. However, the championship was brought back on June 25, 2015. It was given its final name: "TNA King of the Mountain Championship."

TNA announced that a new champion would be decided. This would happen in a special match called a King of the Mountain match. The match took place at an event called Slammiversary. Jeff Jarrett won this match. He defeated Matt Hardy, Eric Young, Drew Galloway, and Bobby Roode.

Jarrett was the founder of another wrestling company called GFW. People thought he might defend the title there. The championship did appear at a GFW event on July 9. At this event, Eric Young attacked Jarrett and took the championship.

Championship Reigns

A "reign" is the time a wrestler holds a championship. The first champion was Booker T. He simply gave himself the championship on October 23, 2008.

The longest time anyone held this championship was Abyss. His second reign lasted 396 days. The shortest reign was by PJ Black. He held the title for only 1 day.

The last champion was Lashley. The championship was officially retired on August 13, 2016.
