Defensive tackles are usually some of the biggest and strongest players on the football field. Their main job is to be a powerful force in the middle of the defensive line. They stand across from the other team's offensive linemen.

What Do They Do?

A defensive tackle's main goal is to stop the opposing team's offense. They try to make it hard for the quarterback to throw the ball. They do this by pushing through the offensive linemen who are trying to protect the quarterback. Sometimes, they also help stop players who are running with the ball. They are key players in blocking the other team's plans.

What Numbers Do They Wear?

In the National Football League (NFL), defensive tackles often wear jersey numbers in the 50s, 60s, 70s, or 90s. However, in college football, players can usually choose any number they like.
