Tadao Onishi (born April 18, 1943 – died June 29, 2006) was a Japanese football player and manager. He was known for playing as a defender. Onishi also played for the Japanese national team.
Playing Career
Club Football
Tadao Onishi was born in Kyoto, Japan, on April 18, 1943. After finishing his studies at Kyoto University of Education, he joined a football club called Mitsubishi Motors in 1967.
During his time with Mitsubishi Motors, the club achieved great success. They won the Japan Soccer League championship twice, in 1969 and 1973. They also won the Emperor's Cup, a major football tournament, in 1971 and 1973. Onishi played 83 games in the league for Mitsubishi Motors before he retired in 1974.
National Team Football
In October 1969, Tadao Onishi was chosen to play for the Japan national team. This was for the 1970 World Cup qualification matches.
He made his first and only appearance for the national team on October 10, 1969. This game was against the Australian national team.
Coaching Career
After he stopped playing football, Onishi became a manager. In 1981, he started managing the Toshiba football team. He continued in this role until the 1985–86 season.
Later, in 2002, he joined Thespa Kusatsu as a general manager. From November 2005, he also took on the role of president for the club.
Later Life
Tadao Onishi passed away on June 29, 2006, in Yokohama, Japan. He was 63 years old.
