How the Tahltan Nation Works
The Tahltan Central Council (TCC) helps connect the two Tahltan groups. It speaks for them on important matters. This includes their traditional rights and ownership of their land. Even though they work together, the Iskut First Nation and the Tahltan First Nation are seen as separate groups by the Canadian government. The TCC is officially registered as a society in British Columbia.
Tahltan Clans
The Tahltan Nation has two main family groups, called clans. These are the Wolf clan and the Crow clan.
Protecting Tahltan Lands
The Tahltan Nation works hard to protect their traditional lands. The Tahltan Central Government (TCG), led by President Chad Day, has helped stop some mining activities. They also worked to get a TV show called "Jade Fever" to stop filming on Tahltan territory. This shows how important their land is to them.
There are currently two active mines on Tahltan territory. These are the Red Chris mine and the Brucejack mine.
