Exploring the Tahune AirWalk
The AirWalk is located about 70 kilometers south of Hobart, which is Tasmania's capital city. From the walkway, you can see the Huon and Picton Rivers joining together far away. The Tahune AirWalk area offers three different walks and even a fun activity called Cable Eagle Hang Gliding.
What is the AirWalk like?
The main part of the AirWalk is a strong steel path that hangs high above the treetops. In some spots, you'll be as high as 50 meters off the ground! The entire walkway is 620 meters long. There are also 1.6 kilometers of paths leading to the bridge and 112 steps to climb to the highest point. If someone has trouble walking, special transport is available to take them to the start of the AirWalk.
Visitor Center and Facilities
At the Tahune AirWalk site, there's a visitor center. It has a cafe where you can grab a bite to eat. The center is open every day. You can also look for cool souvenirs to remember your visit. Plus, there's Wi-Fi available at the visitor center.
Forest Life: Plants and Animals
The Tahune AirWalk is built in a special kind of forest called a wet sclerophyll forest. This forest has many plants usually found in rainforests. You might see trees like Myrtle Beech, Sassafrass, and Leatherwood.
Types of Trees You Might See
The wider area around the AirWalk has different kinds of forests, including wet and dry sclerophyll forests, and even untouched rainforests. Some important trees you can spot are Eucalyptus Regnans and Eucalyptus Obliqua. These are very tall and form the top layer of the forest.
