The Taifa of Niebla (Arabic: طائفة لبلة) was a small Muslim kingdom. It was located in what is now southern Spain. These small kingdoms were called "taifas." The Taifa of Niebla existed during three different time periods. These were from 1023 to 1053, from 1145 to 1150, and from 1234 to 1262.
Niebla was often controlled by larger, more powerful kingdoms. For example, from 1053 to 1091, it was ruled by the Taifa of Seville. This happened under a ruler named Abbad II al-Mu'tadid. The kingdom was finally taken over by the Crown of Castile in 1262.

Understanding the Taifa of Niebla
The word "taifa" means a small independent Muslim kingdom. These kingdoms appeared in Spain after the fall of the large Caliphate of Cordoba. The Taifa of Niebla was one of these kingdoms. It was an important center for trade and culture.
Key Periods of Independence
The Taifa of Niebla was independent for several years. Its first period of freedom was from 1023 to 1053. After this, it was controlled by the Taifa of Seville. It regained independence briefly from 1145 to 1150. Its last period as an independent state was from 1234 to 1262.
Rulers of Niebla: The Emirs
The rulers of the Taifa of Niebla were called Emirs. They belonged to different families, known as dynasties. Each dynasty ruled for a certain period.
The Yahsubid Dynasty
The first family to rule Niebla was the Yahsubid dynasty.
- Abu'l-Abbas Ahmad: He ruled from 1023 or 1024 until 1041 or 1042.
- Muhammad al-Yahsubi Izz ad-Dawla: He was the next ruler, from 1041 or 1042 to 1051 or 1052.
- Abu Nars Fath: He ruled from 1051 or 1052 until 1053 or 1054. After his rule, Niebla was taken over by the Taifa of Seville.
Control by Other Powers
After the Yahsubids, Niebla was not independent for a long time.
- From 1053 or 1054 to 1091, it was part of the Taifa of Seville.
- Then, from 1091 to about 1145, it was controlled by the Almoravid dynasty. The Almoravids were a powerful group from North Africa.
The Bitruyid Dynasty
Niebla became independent again for a short time under the Bitruyid dynasty.
- Yusuf al-Bitruyi: He ruled from 1145 until around 1150. He also ruled in a nearby area called Tejada.
- Al-Wahbi: He ruled briefly until 1150. After this, Niebla was taken over again.
Control by the Almohads
