Takafumi Yoshimoto (吉本 岳史, Yoshimoto Takafumi, born May 13, 1978) is a Japanese football coach and former player. He played as a defender. He was most recently the manager of Kochi United SC until 2024.
Playing Football
Takafumi Yoshimoto was born in Kochi Prefecture on May 13, 1978. After finishing university, he joined a top Japanese football club, Nagoya Grampus Eight, in 2001. He played his first game for the club on November 17, coming on as a substitute defender. However, this was his only game with Nagoya Grampus Eight.
In June 2002, he moved to Yokohama FC, a club in the second division of Japanese football. He played many games as a central defender there. In 2003, he joined another second-division club, Mito HollyHock. He became a regular player for them and played in many matches until 2007.
Yoshimoto returned to Yokohama FC in 2008. He played in many games but was not a regular starter. He stopped playing professional football at the end of the 2009 season. In 2012, he joined Blancdieu Hirosaki FC, a team in the lower leagues. He became a player-manager, meaning he played and coached at the same time. He played regularly for the team, and they were promoted to a higher regional league in 2013. He retired from playing at the end of the 2017 season.
Coaching Career
Takafumi Yoshimoto started his coaching career in 2012 with Blancdieu Hirosaki FC. He was a player-manager for the team. Under his leadership, the club was promoted to the Regional Leagues in 2013. He continued to manage the club until the end of the 2017 season.
In 2020, he became an assistant manager for his hometown club, Kochi United SC. By 2022, he was promoted to be the main manager of Kochi United SC. On December 7, 2024, Yoshimoto led his club to a historic achievement. They won their play-off matches against YSCC Yokohama and earned promotion to the J3 League for the first time ever. Yoshimoto left the club in 2024 after his contract ended.
