Takahiro Futagawa (二川 孝広, Futagawa Takahiro, born 27 June 1980) is a Japanese former football player. He is now the manager of his former team, Tiamo Hirakata.

Playing Career: Midfielder on the Field

Takahiro Futagawa was born in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, on June 27, 1980. He became a professional football player. He played as a Midfielder, which is a player who helps both attack and defense.

Starting with Gamba Osaka

Futagawa joined the J1 League club Gamba Osaka in 1999. He had been part of their youth team before that. He started playing in matches during the 1999 season. From 2000, he played many games as an attacking midfielder. He was a very important player for Gamba Osaka for a long time.

In 2003, he was given the special number "10" jersey. That year, Gamba Osaka finished third in the J1 League.

Golden Years with Gamba Osaka

The team had a very successful period with Futagawa.

  • In 2005, Gamba Osaka won the J1 League for the first time ever.
  • In 2008, they won the AFC Champions League. This is a big tournament for clubs in Asia.
  • They also won the Emperor's Cup in 2008.
  • In 2009, they won the Emperor's Cup again.

This time was known as the "golden era" for Gamba Osaka. Futagawa was a key player during these successful years.

Challenges and New Teams

After 2011, Gamba Osaka faced some tough times.

  • In 2012, the team finished 17th and was moved down to the J2 League.
  • Futagawa stayed with Gamba Osaka, and they won the J2 League in 2013.
  • In 2014, Gamba Osaka returned to J1. They won all three major Japanese titles: the J1 League, the J.League Cup, and the Emperor's Cup.
  • However, Futagawa played less often from 2014 onwards.

In June 2016, Futagawa moved to Tokyo Verdy, a J2 club. He played many games in 2016. But from 2017, he didn't play as much. In March 2018, he moved to Tochigi SC. In 2019, he joined Regional Leagues club FC Tiamo Hirakata.

Futagawa retired from playing football in 2022 after 23 years as a professional player.

Takahiro Futagawa played for the Japan national team. He made his first appearance for Japan on August 4, 2006, in a game against Ghana.

Managerial Career: Leading a Team

After retiring as a player, Futagawa became a football manager. On November 20, 2022, he was named the manager of Tiamo Hirakata. This is the same club he played for before retiring. He started this new role for the 2023 season.
