Takumi Watanabe's Football Journey
Takumi Watanabe was born in Iwaki, Japan, on March 15, 1982. After finishing high school, he joined Kawasaki Frontale in 2000. This team had just moved up to the top Japanese football league, called the J1 League.
Starting His Professional Career
Right after joining Kawasaki Frontale, Watanabe spent a year in Brazil. He said this was a "very good experience" because the midfield play there was "extremely intense." When he returned, his team was in the J2 League. From 2001, he played many games as a defensive midfielder.
In 2003, he started playing as a center back and became a regular player for his team. However, he played less often from 2004. Even though Kawasaki Frontale won the J2 League in 2004 and moved back to J1 in 2005, Watanabe did not play much in the top league.
Moving to New Teams
In 2006, Watanabe moved to Montedio Yamagata, another team in the J2 League. He became a regular defensive midfielder there. Although he played less from mid-2007, his team, Montedio Yamagata, made history by moving up to the J1 League for the first time in 2009. He played many games as a substitute midfielder that year.
In 2010, he joined Roasso Kumamoto and played in many matches for them. The next year, in 2011, he moved to Matsumoto Yamaga FC, which was in the Japan Football League. He played a lot there, and the team was promoted to the J2 League in 2012.
Later Career and Retirement
In 2013, Watanabe moved to Yokohama FC in the J2 League. He didn't play as many games during his three seasons with this team.
Finally, in 2016, he moved to his hometown club, Fukushima United FC, which played in the J3 League. He played many games as a defensive midfielder for them. Takumi Watanabe retired from professional football at the end of the 2017 season. He played a total of 320 league games and scored 5 goals in his career.
