Tales for the Midnight Hour is a collection of spooky books for kids, written by Judith Bauer Stamper. These books are full of scary stories and were some of the first of their kind. They even came out before other popular scary series like Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Scholastic, a well-known publisher, released these books under their Point Horror brand. The series was very popular and had three more books added to it, running from 1977 to 1991.

What Are These Scary Books About?

The Tales for the Midnight Hour series was made for younger readers. However, the stories were often darker and spookier than many other books from that time.

Except for the very first book, each book in the series had 13 different stories. These stories usually featured young people trying to escape from creepy or paranormal situations.

In 1992, the first book was also released as an audiobook on cassette. This meant you could listen to the scary tales!

The whole series was republished in 2005. These newer versions came with fresh cover art and were put together into two larger collections.
